Kevin and Kristen: Madison Presbyterian Church and The Variety Works Winter Wedding

I loved Kristen as soon as I met her at the Athens bridal show in January. I learned right away that she was a teacher and she had graduated from both of my alma maters…Loganville High School and The University of Georgia.

Kristen and Kevin met at Loganville High School and they played tennis together. They started out as friends but then their relationship grew and they were high school sweethearts. Together, they attended the University of Georgia. Kristen loves everything classic and southern (another reason I adore her!) and this love was reflected in their engagement session at the Twelve Oaks Bed and Breakfast in Covington, Georgia as well as their gorgeous winter wedding Saturday that took place in the historic southern town of Madison, Georgia.

The day was cloudy but warm for December. Kristen and her sweet bridesmaids were getting ready in the bridal suite on location at The Variety Works. Her bouquet was a stunning ball of white flowers and her girls had evergreen bouquets with white roses.

Kristen’s gown was a simple but stunning satin gown with buttons all the way down the back…a perfect reflection of her classic personality and style!

Her sweet mom, Toni, zipped her into her gown and helped her into her sparkly stiletto heels. After photos with Kristen and her girls we went right into a first look with Kevin. His face lit up when he saw his beautiful bride. We shot some portraits at the Variety Works and the James Madison Inn before heading over to the Madison Presbyterian Church. This historic church was founded in 1821, and when you walk on the grounds it feels like you are stepping back in time. Once we completed the portraits, I had the pleasure of meeting Kevin’s grandfather, who, like my grandfather, served our country in the Korean War. Kevin’s grandfather beamed at his grandson when we took a few special photos of them.

Kristen’s flower girls proudly handed out programs to the guests as they filtered in, and Kristen’s father proudly escorted her down the aisle to Kevin. After exchanging vows and lighting a unity candle, they were pronounced husband and wife!

We finished family portraits literally just as the rain began and then everyone headed back to the Variety Works to celebrate Kevin and Kristen!

During the reception it was raining, and Kevin and Kristen trusted me to follow me out into the rain to get some fun night shots! I just love these because the light rain looks just like snow!

Throughout our year working together, there was never one time that I spoke to Kristen that she didn’t thank me for what I was doing. She and Kevin always answered me with “yes ma’am” , a thank you and a hug. I have grown to love these two and they have become more friends than clients. I know they will remain that way, and I look forward to seeing where this amazing journey takes them in the future! Kevin and Kristen, you have always thanked me, but I want to thank YOU for being such a blessing and bringing me joy as I worked with the two of you. I love you both, I’m proud of you, and I am so thrilled to have had the privilege of being a part of and capturing your beautiful wedding day. May God richly bless you both!

John and Alida: 9 Oaks Farm, Monroe, Georgia Wedding

John and Alida are truly an inspiring couple. And I 100% believe it was God who brought her to my booth that January day in Athens. A little more than two years before, I remember reading in the local newspapers about a tragic car accident in Bethlehem in which a young man named Anthony Hawkins lost his life to a drunk driver. My heart broke for the family and I remember saying a prayer for them. I had no idea that I would ever know the family—but it was Anthony’s sister, Alida, who I met at the bridal show and who later booked me for her wedding.

As I got to know Alida I learned that her fiancé, John, had also recently lost his father. These two have walked through the painful valleys of tragedy and loss, but in seeing one another through those times, they formed a solid foundation on which to build their lives together.

Alida is an elementary school teacher, fitness coach, avid runner and supporter of the annual Apple’s Journey 5K that takes place each year at Apalachee High School in honor of her brother. John has served our country in the military. Their families are some of the kindest people you will ever meet. Their bond and love for one another is evident, and their strong faith has seen them through some of the darkest times.

Friday was a time to celebrate Alida and John—and it was truly a gorgeous, sunny day with temperatures in the 60’s. The weather couldn’t have been more perfect for this special couple.

Alida’s brother and John’s father were very much a part of their day. Their photos were displayed at the ceremony and the reception, Alida carried a photo of her brother tied to her bouquet, John’s father’s knife and clip were in his pocket and a special handkerchief was tucked in his breast pocket.

We had a great time hanging out with John and his guys as they smoked their pipes and posed for pictures, and then we went to work with Alida and her girls. Alida even had a few lady bugs land on her which traditionally is supposed to be good luck! When it came time for the ceremony, you could see the emotion in John’s face as he watched Alida walked toward him. They exchanged vows and assembled a rustic cross before being pronounced man and wife. As Alida and John walked down the aisle, their families and friends tossed paper airplanes in the air as a way to remember John’s father. And then—after the entire bridal party exited—they prayed together.

After bridal party photos and photos of Alida and John, they were introduced and went right into first dances. I was literally wiping away tears as I was photographing the first dances. You could see the look of pride in Alida’s father’s face, and the bittersweet emotion that passed between John and his mother as I’m sure they were remembering his father.

John and Alida are truly inspiring…for their perseverance, their faith and their commitment to one another. I am so thankful that God had our paths crossed and I was able to capture this special time for them. I consider it an honor. John and Alida—may you days be filled with sunshine and blessings…thank you so much for your service to our country. You will both always be special to me.

Jacob and Star: Athens UGA Engagement

Jacob and Star are currently seniors at UGA (my alma mater!) and I met them this past weekend at a beautiful property belonging to Jacob’s grandparents to begin their engagement session. They first saw one another when Star walked into a 3-D print lab (although Jacob doesn’t remember this) and then later they met at a birthday party. Jacob asked for her number and the rest is history! Jacob cautioned me to watch my step as we hiked down a steep hill to the river. He was such a gentleman—he even offered to carry my heavy camera bag on the way back up the hill! Before we headed to our second location, we included their sweet dog Finnegan in a few shots!

We met back on campus at the Founder’s garden for their second location and Star looked elegant in her black dress! These two were so easy to be around and their natural interactions, smiles and laughter made my job so easy! It’s evident they are crazy about one another…Jacob was beaming the entire time! They are such a sweet and genuine couple and I am so excited about capturing these special memories for them now and next October when they say “I Do” at the Thompson House and Gardens! Congratulations on your engagement Jacob and Star!!

Christopher and Brittany: Talmo Farms, Eatonton Georgia

I will never forget when I first met Brittany…she is a nurse in Athens, and when I met her at Dunkin’ Donuts for a consultation she had just gotten off night shift. She is such a genuine, sweet person and I loved her immediately. When I met them in Athens for their engagement session, I was laughing the entire time…Christopher is SO much fun to be around!

When Kristal and I drove out to their wedding location in Eatonton, we found Talmo Farm which was perched atop a small rise and overlooked a view that was nothing short of breathtaking. We had been watching the weather and the radar and were lucky to escape the chances of rain that had been forecast for their day. The wind was pretty strong, but it made for some beautiful veil shots with Brittany’s cathedral length veil! After greeting the girls and Brittany in the bridal suite, ee got to work on her details and then went to find Christopher so he could open his gift.

Christopher is notorious for wearing a baseball cap…he even brought it to their engagement session—so I teased him about that as we headed outside for him to read his letter and open his gift. Brittany gave him a golf club which he looked at every time they were in Dick’s Sporting Goods and he grinned when he saw it.

Christopher gifted his beautiful bride with a custom made diamond necklace. The diamond was the first diamond his step-father had given his mother.

After hanging out with the guys we went to grab Brittany and the girls for some photos. Brittany was a trooper. She had been feeling a little under the weather, and between that and the strong winds she handled everything so well! We took the girls down to a bend in the road before you came to the farm. The trees provided some gorgeous fall colors and acted as a windbreak to protect the girls. While we were finishing pictures with the girls, a guest pulled up and informed us they had just killed a Timber Rattlesnake only yards from where we were standing and to be careful. I was grateful I had tall boots on!

We headed up to prep for the ceremony and Christopher and Brittany shared a first touch and a special prayer with Christopher’s father. Brittany’s father escorted her down the aisle, and they both battled the wind with Brittany’s cathedral length veil and blusher. Christopher grinned as he watched his beautiful bride walking toward him. They exchanged vows and completed a rustic cross sculpture, and were then pronounced man and wife!

We went right into family formals and then worked with the bridal party before whisking Christopher and Brittany back down to the path in the woods. (Oh and y’all—Christopher, Brittany and the bridal party were one of the most polite groups I’ve ever worked with! Everything was “yes ma’am” or “no ma’am”….the epitome of southern manners!) The owner of the farm told us to watch out for yellow jackets. I smiled at Brittany and said “Timber rattlers…yellow jackets…is there anything else I need to know about?” She laughed and replied “Welcome to Eatonton!” I joked with Christopher that he was on rattler watch while we shot their portraits. When we headed back up to the open field, the clouds broke up and the sun came out for only about five minutes.…but we were thrilled to get even that!

Christopher and Brittany were introduced at their reception, shared their first dance to Cross My Heart (Which was also the song my husband and I danced to at our wedding!) and then Brittany danced with her father and Christopher danced with his mother.

Outside the glass doors, a fire roared and most of the guests hung out there while the sun set. It was truly a beautiful day with great people! I’m so thankful God brought this sweet couple into my life. Christopher and Brittany, I wish you every happiness as you begin this amazing new chapter in your lives! I love y’all to the moon—and Christopher—I may even let you wear that baseball cap if you are ever in front of my camera again!! ;-)

Matthew and Jillian: Empire Mills

It’s always special when you get to work with a family multiple times…especially when the members of that family have become friends! I had the pleasure of working with the Nivilinszky family a year ago this past May when their daughter Terina got married, so when Aggie called to tell me Jillian was getting married I was beyond excited to work with them again! If there is one word I could use to describe Jillian, it is JOY. As I was combing through her wedding photos to pull pictures for this blog, joy was painted across her face in almost every one. Every time I’ve been around her from the time I met with them to plan for Terina’s wedding that joy was present and surrounded her. On her wedding day, she was joy personified.

Matt and Jillian picked Empire Mills as their venue, which is one of my favorites! Empire Mills is a rustic cotton factory nestled in an open field in Madison, Georgia. It’s full of character including a stunning chandelier in the ceremony room, beautiful nooks with tufted sofas and a big open reception hall complete with a Juliet balcony.

When I met Jillian out there on Friday, we were watching the weather—we knew we had a chance of rain and were prepared to rearrange our photography schedule if necessary. My team got to work styling her details, photographing her dresses and when Ashlie from Bud and Bloom walked in with her bouquet, I think everyone’s jaw dropped! Jillian’s colors were absolutely gorgeous and her shoes (she confided that they ordered at least 20 pairs trying to find just the right ones) were red velvet and matched her bridesmaid’s gowns. Her gown had an intricate scalloped lace overlay (with sparkles as she made sure to point out to her girls and her dad at those first looks) and a sweet gold jeweled headband that led back to a soft cathedral length veil.

When we went to work with Matt and the guys, we laughed at Matt’s antics during his groom photos—he struck several poses for us. Then, Jillian’s mother Aggie helped her into her gown. Jillian has a lot of her mom’s vivacious personality—you can’t be around either of them without smiling!

We prepped for a first look with Jillian’s bridesmaids, which had everyone grinning as she sauntered out of the bridal suite swinging her hips and tossing her veil to the squeals of her girls. Her mom, Aggie, watched from the doorway as everyone admired Jillian’s stunning lace gown and cathedral length veil.

Then, we hid Jillian away and went to get her sweet Daddy. Diana, my second photographer, was with me at Terina’s wedding and we both knew Don would get emotional when he saw his beautiful daughter. We brought Jillian out, and while we were adjusting her veil she called out “Hey Dad, your ass looks great in that suit!” We all doubled over laughing.

But the laughter turned palpable emotion when Don turned around to see his little girl in her wedding gown. I’m not sure there were many dry eyes around as we photographed those sweet moments. I remember a very similar reaction at Terina’s wedding—it is just so touching to see how tenderly Don loves his girls.

We went right into portraits with Jillian and her girls and then it was time for her first look with Matt! When Jillian walked toward Matt, her veil caught in the wind and it was just such a sweet moment! We shot portraits with them and then the bridal party. Jillian and Matt both graduated from Georgia Tech, so we used some gold pom poms to get some fun shots with the bridal party!

We headed back inside to shoot the reception details. Aggie is the director for the North Gwinnett Arts Association in Suwanee, so it was no surprise she knocked the reception decor out of the park! They used vintage books and gold geometric shapes softened by greenery and candles and y’all—it was STUNNING.

Their ceremony was God-centered and sweet, and one of my favorite pictures was Don smiling down at Jillian as he waited to give her away…the emotion he was feeling was written all over his face. After sealing their vows with a kiss, we went right into family pictures and then a few “just married” portraits before they were introduced at their reception.

It was truly an honor for me to work with this family twice…they have become sweet friends. To Matt and Jillian, thank you for allowing me the privilege of capturing your day—you are both amazing people and I wish you every blessing as you begin this journey of marriage! Congratulations!

Austin and Kaylin: The Variety Works

I don’t know too many brides who would still have a positive outlook when facing a 100% chance of rain their wedding day….literally 100% ALL day…but Kaylin did. When I spoke with her the Thursday before her wedding to discuss the rain plans for her photos, she said she had already had her moment of disappointment, but she was ready to make the best of it.

When I arrived, the rain had already been falling and the ground was soaked. When I walked up to the porch I noticed a large painter’s ladder propped against the inn. I knew I had to do everything I could to get it moved, because with the weather, the porch was going to be a key place to shoot. After enlisting the help of Pam at the front desk, we located the maintenance worker, Jay, who said he wasn’t able to move the ladder alone. About that time, Adam and Jacob were bringing in a Yeti cooler, and they were more than willing to help get that moved. (A HUGE thank you to them…because it made all the difference in the background of Kaylin and Austin’s photos!)

Meanwhile, Kaylin was hanging out with her bridesmaids in her stunning lace robe. I worked on her detail shots, which included a special handkerchief made from the lace of her mother’s gown. Austin’s mother had a surprise for him—his beloved grandfather had recently passed away, and she had a picture of Austin with his grandfather pinned to his boutonniere. They were both emotional as she pinned it on his lapel but it was a touching way to include him in this special day.

With the rain, we tried to stay indoors as much as we could—and the guys were troopers working in the limited space that we had. Kaylin was zipped into her gown and after a sweet first look with her father, we went outside for photos. Y’all—Kaylin’s train was stunning. And long. While on the porch, we arranged it on top of white trash bags to keep it as dry as possible. When we went out on the steps, I gave Kaylin the choice of laying it out for photos but let her know it would get wet. Kaylin decided there wasn’t point of having a stunning train without laying it all out, so as quickly as we could we draped it over the stairs, got some shots, and got her back on the porch. She had SUCH an amazing attitude! She said “I don’t care, we will dry it!” And she went upstairs where her friends and family used hair dryers to get it dried before her first look with Austin.

I knew originally Kaylin and Austin did not want a first look, but the weather changed their minds. I wanted to keep it as private and intimate as possible, and with the weather, our only option for a location was inside where the ceremony was to take place. We had Kaylin walk down the aisle to Austin and call his name—and even though Austin is pretty stoic, you cold see the emotion in his face as he beheld his beautiful bride.

After a few private moments we went back out for photos, and once again Kaylin’s train got wet. Again, she shrugged it off and before the ceremony her gown was spread out (and pretty much took up the entire bridal suite) and blow driers came out again to dry it.

The ceremony was incredibly sweet and God-centered. Austin eagerly kissed his bride and we made out way out for bridal party photos. We were loosing light quickly (another huge reason why when facing overcast skies First Looks are so beneficial…you get the brighter light earlier in the day!) so after family formals we quickly went back out for “just married” photos. We had maybe five minutes where the rain was reduced to a drizzle, so we tossed the umbrellas and managed a few shots before the the rain fell again. The wind picked up, tossing Kaylin’s veil around and as we finished we got them back into the bridal suite for a quick and private meal before reception introductions.

During open dancing, the rain was still falling…and I decided to ask Kaylin and Austin to come out one more time in the rain for a night shot. I really wanted them to have a unique and special photo, and they had no problem coming back out when I told them what I wanted to do. But that’s just the type of couple they are…trusting, laid back, and up for anything. It was evident throughout the entire day and evening that they were focused on the joy of coming together as husband and wife, and not on the weather. Kaylin’s sweet smile was painted on her face the entire day, and I am SO proud of the way she handled everything and the amazing attitude that she had. It really exemplifies where their hearts are—and to be a part of capturing the day for a couple this special was nothing short of a privilege for me.

Kaylin and Austin, you have been such a joy to work with…I wish you both every blessing, and I wish you a WARM and SUNNY honeymoon in Jamaica this week!

Kaitlyn: A Norcross High School Senior Session

Meet Kaitlyn! This sweet girl is a senior at Norcross High School, and I had such a great time hanging out with her for her senior session at Vines Park in Loganville! I taught senior English at Norcross for years, so this was truly a treat for me and reminded me of all the great times I had with my kids!

Kaitlyn plays the clarinet, tennis, and is in Blue Crew (which is one of the most awesome student sections for sports in the state of Georgia!) She enjoys going to games and cheering on her fellow students. Kaitlyn is also involved in FCA and she is busy filling out college applications! She hasn’t decided where she wants to go to school next year, but she has aspirations to be a pediatrician and loves working with kids.

And y’all—she has the cutest pet bunny named S’mores! I only wish she would have brought him to her session…how fun would that be?? I used to have a pet bunny, so I loved hearing stories of S’mores as we walked around the park.

Kaitlyn—I hope you have an AMAZING senior year at Norcross! I can’t wait to see where you end up choosing to go to college—wherever that is, they will be so lucky to get you!

Josh and Ashley: A Georgia College Engagement Session

Josh and Ashley met at Georgia College, so I love that their engagement session took place there…it really reflects their story! Last Sunday I took a road trip down to Milledgeville. Ashley and I had been keeping in touch and watching the weather, and with the rain chance pretty high that afternoon, we opted for a morning session which was our only chance for a little sunshine!

These two are so sweet and laid back, and their genuine personalities and joy of being together made my job capturing them easy! Josh is actually from my hometown of Loganville which is so neat—and Ashley is finishing her last year at Georgia College as an education major. Josh surprised Ashley with a sweet proposal while on a beach vacation.

I so enjoyed the little tour I got while walking around with them. They showed me the Governor’s mansion, and we walked along the beautiful pathways and took pictures on the porches of some of the buildings. Their July wedding will take place at 9 Oaks Farm in Monroe, and I am so excited to work with them and to capture this special time in their lives! Josh and Ashley, congratulations on your engagement and I hope you enjoy this time of planning and excitement!

Matt and Elizabeth: A Cherished Backyard Wedding

The first of October, my husband received a text from one of his co-workers asking about my availability for their October 12th wedding. When he approached me about it, I was naturally a little baffled and the timing and wondered why they didn’t have a photographer already secured. Their date was the only Saturday in October that I wasn’t booked, and I asked Elizabeth to call me. A few minutes later she did and after talking to her, I learned about their situation. Matt and Elizabeth had planned to get married on Cumberland Island next year, but Elizabeth’s dad was battling pancreatic cancer and to ensure he would be a part of their day, they abandoned their plans and were putting a wedding together in only a few weeks. Elizabeth sounded emotional as she said “I just want to marry Matt…and I want my dad to be there.”

I’m sure we have all known and loved someone who has battled cancer. For me, I’ve watched my aunt, my husband’s uncle, and a family friend battle this disease, and I knew as soon as I heard their story that I wanted to help however I could.

Matt’s sister, Jessica, and her husband Aaron own a large piece of land in Fayetteville, and they offered for the wedding to take place there. Family pitched in to help make the boutonnières, the bouquets, and the table decorations. Elizabeth’s sisters helped to oversee the dinner. Everyone did what they could to make this day special for Matt and Elizabeth. Elizabeth’s children, Amy and James were also included in the wedding, and Elizabeth shared a sweet moment with her daughter before they headed down to the creek where the ceremony would take place.

Elizabeth rode down to the ceremony with her father in a golf-cart. As her father tucked her hand in his elbow to escort her down the aisle, he stood tall and proud and both of their faces were full of emotion. It was an incredibly powerful moment to watch, and there were tears in not only their eyes, but in the eyes of many of their guests as her father gave her away to Matt.

Their ceremony was God-centered and sweet, and included a unity candle, and special readings. Finally, they were pronounced husband and wife, and they sealed their vows with a kiss.

We headed back out of the woods to take family portraits, and portraits of Matt and Elizabeth. At the tail end of photos, a rain shower popped up, but that didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits—everyone found shelter under the porch while we grabbed a few fun portraits with the clear umbrellas. The rain only lasted a few minutes, and when it ended, Matt and Elizabeth shared their first dance as husband and wife, followed by an incredibly emotional father-daughter dance, and then Matt danced with his mother.

It was truly a beautiful, intimate, backyard wedding with their closest friends and family. While I’m sure it was a bittersweet day for Elizabeth and her family, I’m thankful they were also able to experience joy at watching these two come together and this special family be united. I was truly impacted by the strength, dignity and love her father displayed throughout the day. Matt and Elizabeth, thank you for entrusting me with what I know are priceless memories—and know that my family’s prayers are with your family and Elizabeth’s father as he continues his battle.

Luke and Elizabeth: Dabney Farm Anniversary Session

I don’t think it was an accident that in 2004 this sweet red-headed girl walked into my classroom at Carver Middle School in Monroe. God had our paths cross and I’m so thankful that He did…because Elizabeth is now my daughter’s riding instructor, a fellow business owner, and a sweet friend. She and Luke are truly an amazing couple, and our family is blessed to call them friends. Luke serves as a firefighter in Walton County, and also runs a business—Smith Land and Farm. He’s incredibly talented working with wood and he even built the display wall that I take with me twice a year to bridal shows. Elizabeth is a riding instructor, horse trainer and runs the farm’s drill team program, the Diamond D Cowgirls. She has high expectations for her riders, and I can’t think of a better role model for my girls.

I’ve been privileged to be a part of their lives and capture their engagement, wedding and now anniversary photos! Elizabeth’s horse, Accolade, has been along for the ride as well. If you ever watched the TV series Sleepy Hollow, or the Goosebumps show that was filmed in Covington, you might recognize this beautiful white horse. He’s even been in a few movies. He loves the camera, and he REALLY loves Elizabeth. I remember shooting her engagement photos—Accolade wasn’t super thrilled to share her with Luke, and he even nipped at Luke when they were sitting in the pasture! When they were married, Accolade carried Elizabeth up the hill to the pasture where they exchanged their vows (still one of the dreamiest ceremonies ever—talk about fairy tale with white horse and all!)…and he wasn’t about to be left out of this session. When we went in his pasture to take some pictures, he eyeballed us for a minute then decided to come over and nudged his way into the photos.

We had so much fun hanging out and reminiscing about when we were shooting their wedding…at Accolade “smiling” in the photos, and Luke ripping his pants while climbing over the fence for photos. (Luckily that didn’t happen this time!) We caught the gorgeous sunset on the Dabney Farm at the end of the session—it really was a beautiful evening! I’m so glad I was able to capture this special time for Luke and Elizabeth, and we are so thankful for the impact they have on our girls and for their friendship!

Brandon and Kaylynn: Livin' Dreams Farm Engagement Session

When I met Kaylynn and Brandon out at Livin’ Dreams Farm in Good Hope, Georgia I instantly loved them. Kaylynn gave me a big hug and asked about my girls. She was so genuine and that she had even thought to ask about my daughters meant so much to me. Brandon was all smiles and he and Kaylynn had brought along their dogs, Winnie and Maddie, and Kaylynn’s grandmother to help wrangle them.

Kaylynn works for the University of Georgia and Brandon is a Tennessee grad (I won’t hold that against him ;-)) Brandon is also a fishing coach so both Kaylynn and I can relate with our significant others being coaches! They met in downtown Athens in 2015 and after a month of texting they finally went on a date. This past July they traveled to Yellowstone in Wyoming where they hiked up a trail to watch the sunset. Kaylynn was a little worried about bears but that worry dissipated when Brandon proposed!

There’s a beautiful story behind Kaylynn’s ring—every diamond in her engagement ring was once set in rings belonging to Brandon’s grandmother. Brandon had the diamonds from his grandmother’s rings, that symbolized the 58 years of marriage she shared with his grandfather, set into Kaylynn’s engagement ring…what a lovely heirloom and special story to symbolize the beginning of their journey!

After we shot some gorgeous sunset photos in the pasture, we bribed Casey, one of the resident horse of Livin’ Dreams Farm with some apple slices. After he ate all of the apples Brandon and Kaylynn fed him, he immediately turned and tracked me down to sniff out my camera bag for more!

Kaylynn’s sweet grandmother had come all the way from North Carolina to help be the dog wrangler for their engagement session. Winnie and Maddie were the sweetest…they hung out and enjoyed some love while being included in photos.

I just can’t say enough about this sweet couple—their joy and laughter was truly genuine and to be a part of capturing their beautiful love story is so special! Brandon and Kaylynn, Congratulations! I hope you enjoy this season as you plan for your wedding!

Jesse and Sarah: Hurricane Shoals Park Engagement Session

Jesse and Sarah didn’t meet until high school—but they were connected back in 5th grade when they were both into archery. A local paper wrote a story and featured each of them—and little did they know that one day, years later, they would be engaged to be married!

We had a little yellow in the leaves but when we met for their shoot out at Hurricane Shoals Park it was a steaming 92 degrees out! (And it was the end of September!) Despite the heat, these two rocked their engagement session! We started on the side of the park that is a replica of a small town and found a beautiful spot with filtered light. By the time we finished the photos with their first outfits, they were looking forward to getting into the river and cooling off! While they changed, I grabbed some macro shots of Sarah’s ring—isn’t it gorgeous??

I also learned when chatting with Jesse that he worked with my next-door-neighbor! What a small world! We went to the river side of the park and had some fun wading in the water. Jesse was a gentleman and tested the bottom to make sure it wasn’t slippery before Sarah went in. These two are so sweet and genuine and I am so excited to capture these memories for them! I can’t wait for their upcoming spring wedding! Congratulations Jesse and Sarah!

Zach and Julia's Farm Engagement Session

Zach and Julia first met when they ran into one another at a local gas station. Julia told Zach, “I like your truck.” Zach responded that he liked Julia’s face…and their relationship grew from there!

These two were so sweet to work with and are both genuine, down-to-earth people! Zach was an absolute gentleman and he even insisted on carrying my heavy camera bag as we moved from one location to another on Julia’s family farm. Julia, every inch the farm girl, had no problem climbing and scaling a row of hay bales for a photo!

Their adorable dog Cooper tagged along for some photos (and a big thanks to Julia’s mom Debbie for being the dog wrangler while we worked!) and we also got a few with Julia’s horses, Annie and Mystery after bribing them with some apples and carrots.

The Wilkes farm is a beautiful property out near Jefferson, Georgia, and Julia and Zach will say their vows here in the spring. I am so excited to work with them and capture these memories! Congratulations Zach and Julia and enjoy this season of being engaged!

Emma: Class of 2020, Norcross High School

Sweet Emma is enjoying her senior year at Norcross High School! She fell in love with Barrington Hall in Roswell and we had so much fun shooting her senior photos there! The location was a perfect match to her sweet, classic, southern personality! We paired this location with the river by Roswell Mill, and we had a great time laughing and catching up! Emma’s mother, Michelle, was my long-term sub (twice!) when I was expecting my daughters! I shot her sister Nyala’s senior photos a few years ago. We laughed at how different the weather was…Nyala’s photo session took place with temperatures hovering at freezing and the sky was overcast (we still got some gorgeous photos) but it was quite the opposite for Emma’s session with warm temperatures and sunny skies!

This beauty is involved in an organization called “Love to serve, Serve to love” which projects around the school and in her community. She’s been involved in this group for the past four years, and on the leadership side of it for the past three. She also is involved in a program called Experiential Leadership Institute—a Christian leadership program that develops teenagers who then in turn volunteer to live and work at different churches in the summer to run a day camp for kids. She has been active with the Best Buddies club at Norcross the past four years and has joined the leadership team for the National Arts Honor Society. Emma loves art, and is currently taking IB Art and Ceramics at Norcross. You can also find her in the stands with Blue Crew (the student spirit group at Norcross that attends sporting events). Emma also plays tennis, loves to write and journal, and she plans to become an occupational therapist and work in a children’s hospital.

Emma has the sweetest personality—just being around her will make anyone smile! She is fun, up for anything (even wading right into the river and getting her gorgeous lace gown wet!) and is so incredibly talented! I’m so thankful that they entrusted me with capturing these memories for both Emma (and her sweet sister!) I can’t wait to find out where she goes to school next year…Emma you are an absolutely JOY and I hope you have an amazing senior year at Norcross!!

Nico and Giuliana: The Thompson House and Gardens

Sunday’s celebration of Nico and Giuliana was truly beautiful…not only because of the location, the flowers, and the stunning bride, but because you could truly feel the presence of God throughout their day, and the love they shared with one another.

Giuliana and Nico met when Nico’s father planted a church in Lawrenceville. After dating, Nico popped the question one cool, rainy afternoon at the State Botanical Gardens in Athens. When I first spoke with Giuliana, it struck me how incredible genuine she was. This beautiful lady is full of joy, kindness, laughter, and life. Nico is a little quieter, but he is an absolute gentleman, kind-hearted and crazy about Giuliana.

Their day began out at Nico’s mother’s house in Winder. I met the girls there to grab some shots of them getting ready. When I walked into the master bathroom where several girls were applying mascara and curling hair, I giggled at the sight of two of the bridesmaids, legs tucked up, in the large garden tub working on their make-up…I agreed with them that the light was great in that spot!

At the venue, the Thompson House and Gardens, which is located in Bogart, Georgia, I began working on Giuliana’s detailed shots. Her colors went together beautifully and complemented their invitation and their favors of tiny succulent plants. Giuliana dressed upstairs in the bridal suite, and her mother helped pin in her cathedral length veil. Nico’s mother then appeared and the three women prayed over Nico, Giuliana and the day to come. We shot family portraits, including a special three generation portrait of Giuliana, her mother and her Abuela outside on the porch. Giuliana then had a reveal with her sweet bridesmaids. We finished her bridal portraits just in time for Nico to arrive, and tucked her away and out of sight upstairs while we worked with the guys.

Just before the ceremony, Nico and Giuliana shared a first touch and a sweet prayer followed by some private vows. The ceremony details were gorgeous—burgundy, green and white and blush floral arrangements adorned the bright and airy room. Giuliana was escorted down the aisle by both of her parents, and Nico wiped away a tear when he saw his beautiful bride.

After a God-centered ceremony performed by Nico’s father, they sealed their vows with a kiss and processed back down the aisle as man and wife!

We worked with the bridal party, the family, and then Nico and Giuliana for their portraits. They were troopers…the high was in the 90’s and it was hot but neither of them complained! They were all smiles and just enjoyed being together.

At the reception, they shared their first dance followed by dinner, cake-cutting and then Giuliana danced with her mother, and then her father to “Dancing Queen” before we slipped outside for a few fun night shots in the garden.

They ended their celebration with a sparkler send-off. It was truly a joyous day. At the end of the day, Sammy handed me a note from Giuliana and Nico—and when I got home I sat in my driveway and read it and teared up. Despite all they had going on in this busy season of wedding planning, they took the time to write me a note expressing their appreciation…and that meant more to me than I can express. I absolutely love this sweet couple…it was a privilege for me to capture these memories for them. During the toasts, Esau and Laurie talked about their desire to start a coffee shop ministry. I know they will succeed, because I know God’s blessing is on this sweet couple. Their heart for Jesus, for their family and for one another is a shining example of what it looks like to walk in Fatih. Nico and Giuliana—I can’t wait to come visit your coffee shop one day…you two are very dear to me and I wish you every blessing on your marriage as you begin this awesome new chapter in your lives!

Brandon and Hannah's Barrington Hall Roswell Engagement Session

I got to know Hannah through my March bride, Brynn—they were sorority sisters at the University of Georgia. Hannah and her fiancé Brandon met while they were students at Brookwood High School—Brandon was a senior and Hannah was a junior. They both ended up attending UGA, and Brandon proposed to Hannah at Piedmont Park in Atlanta. We met on Sunday to shoot their engagement session at Barrington Hall in Roswell and Vickery Creek.

First, let me tell you—Brandon was an absolute trooper for this session. Not only was he missing Sunday football for this, but he also wore a sport coat in 95 degree weather!! And Hannah was just the sweetest…we had only conversed over the phone because she had been living and working out of state, but I knew I would love her as soon as she smiled at me and gave me a hug!

Hannah looked absolutely stunning in her blue and white floral chiffon dress…it couldn’t have been more perfect for the southern charm of Barrington Hall!

They picked up so quickly on the core poses that I taught them and were just naturals in front of my camera! We had planned for our second location to be the Roswell Mill waterfall but when we arrived, it looked like half of Roswell had turned up to cool off in the creek. Luckily, we found a secluded spot with unbelievable light, and were able to get some gorgeous water pictures after all!

After we wrapped up their session, they insisted on driving me to my car (I had parked way up a steep hill), and I SO appreciated that (did I mention it was 95 degrees out??)! I believe that the couples who find me or become connected with me are never by accident…because every single couple has been a blessing for me to get to know and serve through my photography. I am beyond excited to work with Brandon and Hannah and I can’t wait for their June wedding!!

Kevin and Katie: Georgian Terrace Piedmont Room Atlanta Wedding

Kevin and Katie’s wedding will be one that I always remember. Years ago when I taught British Literature at Norcross High School, they were in my first period class. I can still see where Katie sat in my C205 classroom— close to my desk and against the partition that served as one of our classroom walls. Katie was one of those students who just exuded joy and happiness when she walked in the room. She often got there early in the morning and well before the bell rang to begin first period (well, that is until she and Kevin started dating and they barely made it on time due to their early morning Chick-Filet-et runs or Katie’s Harry Potter club meetings before school.) Kevin started out sitting across the room. He was very quiet but always had a kind smile and a bag of baseball gear for practice after school—and I always used to tease him for the Gator shirts he wore to my UGA decorated classroom.

One day, I noticed Kevin moved his seat—right in front of Katie. Then I noticed them talking and laughing quietly as they waited for the bell to ring to begin first period. When Katie convinced him to attend her Harry Potter club meetings (I still remember that maroon and gold striped scarf she wore when it was cold) I knew they were more than just friends. They were inseparable. After they started dating, I’m not sure that I ever saw them walk in without the other—that is, until Katie underwent eye surgery and was out for several days recovering. I admire Katie so much…despite multiple eye surgeries and absences throughout high school and coping with all the stress and roadblocks that went along with that, she never let it slow her down. I remember when she was out for an extended time in my class that I sent her flowers…and when I was picking out what kind of flowers, I picked yellow…because to me, she was a ray of sunshine and I sorely missed her sweet smile in the mornings and eagerness to help me with anything I was doing before school started.

Kevin and Katie dated throughout high school, had a long distance relationship as Kevin went off to school at Auburn, and the next time I saw them was when I was photographing Tanner and Laura Beth’s wedding, and Kevin was a groomsmen. I was thrilled to see him, and later that evening I had a break to see and hug Katie. She had grown into a now taller than me (because she was definitely shorter than me back in high school) beautiful woman, and we spent a few minutes chatting and catching up. Not long after Tanner and Laura Beth’s wedding, Kevin popped the question when they were hiking with their dog Bogey and Katie contacted me about photographing their wedding. I was so thrilled to have the opportunity to capture their day…especially because I had known them at the beginning of their romantic relationship!

Katie and Kevin live in Atlanta with Bogey and they love the city! They spent the evening before their wedding at Atlanta’s famous Georgian Terrace Hotel, and then moved over to Park Tavern for the ceremony.

When I arrived at the Georgian Terrace, Katie and her sweet girls—her sister Heather and bridesmaids Emily and Zoe were busy with hair and make-up, and I got started with her detailed shots. After that, we photographed the guys on the rooftop of the Georgian Terrace and down on the sidewalk. Once Katie was zipped into her stunning gown, we took the girls up to the rooftop as well and they were troopers—because we were in full sun on the roof in 95 degree weather! We made sure to get the famous Fox Theatre sign in the photos down on the sidewalk, and then it was time to head over to the Piedmont Room at Park Tavern.

When we arrived at the Piedmont Room, the property was surrounded by construction for Music Midtown. Katie and Kevin knew about it and they were completely laid back and trusted us to do the best we could with the situation. Luckily there was no event going on in the small courtyard and we were able to use that for their first look!

When it was time for the ceremony, Katie and Kevin’s dog, Bogey, was brought in to be a part of the celebration. Hamp, one of the groomsmen, and also one of my former students, was in charge of Bogey. Bogey came skittering in decked out in an Auburn collar and white bow tie. Katie’s father escorted her down the aisle, and they said their vows surrounded by family and friends. Katie was a little excited about getting to that part, because she jumped in when it was Kevin’s turn, causing everyone to laugh! Groosmen Kevin and Ryan played the guitar and sang “God Only Knows” during the ceremony and they were pronounced Mr. and Mrs. Cosola! They were all smiles as they made their way back down the aisle, and Bogey stopped to get some love from a few guests.

Bridal party portraits were interesting…the construction workers weren’t allowing anyone out on the green, but we got reassurance from Josh, one of the venue employees that he would do what it took to get us out there and get those famous Atlanta skyline photos! He succeeded after a very convincing conversation with one of the workers and we went out to the grass with Bogey in tow. One of my favorite shots from working with this group was when Bogey decided he’d had enough of being apart from his mom and dad and he decided to try to make a break for it…much to Hamp’s dismay.

We shot sunset portraits with Katie and Kevin and then went up to celebrate! At the reception, Kevin and Katie shared their first dance as husband and wife and then Katie and her dad surprised everyone with a choreographed dance. After Kevin and his mother danced, they invited the whole room to join in and then dinner was served.

Saturday was truly an amazing celebration of a very special couple…and this wedding was so meaningful to me! I had a total of five former students in the bridal party—it was a wedding I won’t ever forget! Kevin and Katie, you have always been special to me. There are no words for me to express how proud I am of both of you and how much it meant for me to be able to capture this day for you. I love you both and I wish you every blessing as you begin this new journey together! Congratulations!

Jon and Abigail's Farm at High Shoals Fairy Tale Wedding

When I first met with Jon and Abigail, and the told me the story of how they met, I instantly connected with them because they met in the small town of Newberry, South Carolina—where I spent two years in college before transferring to UGA! John was touring with the Steve Tyrell band, and Abigail’s grandmother was a big fan—so, she and her sister took their grandmother to the Newberry Opera House to see the performance. Jon noticed Abigail in the crowd and after the performance, they met in the lobby while the band was signing autographs.

Most of their relationship has been long distance as Jon was based out of California and toured—and Abigail remained in school here in Georgia. After becoming engaged, everything fell into place—Abigail took at job as a nurse in Athens and Jon was accepted into law school at UGA—and they were finally ready to start their happily ever after!

Abigail told me she fell in love with the Farm at High Shoals—it fit her vision of a fairy-tale wedding. It definitely felt like stepping into another world when we arrived the morning of the wedding! A long drive flanked by tall oak trees gave way to a sprawling, stone mansion resembling a small castle. Abigail and her bridesmaids were deep into hair and make-up, and I went to work on her details.

Y’all—her flowers were out of this world gorgeous! Her mother, who isn’t a florist, created all of the floral arrangements. The peach and fuchsia colors just popped and fit beautifully with the peaches that were nestled among the garlands running down the tables at the reception. Her theme of peaches was carried over to the wedding favors—peach vanilla bourbon jam—a specialty made by her grandmother.

Jon and his guys were a lot of fun to hang out with—they were easy-going and all smiles as we shot their pictures. We pulled the girls out for shots in their sweet pink and green robes, and then once Abigail was dressed, we went out on the porch for photos.

The ceremony was stunning—a gold framed sign topped with a spray of flowers greeted the guests, and clusters of rose petals lined the aisle. A harpist began to play, and a blue Bentley brought Abigail to the aisle. Jon was grinning as he watched his gorgeous bride walk toward him escorted by her father, and the best part of the ceremony was when his father, the officiant, asked Jon if he would take Abigail as his wife, and Jon responded with a resounding “Hell Yeah!” followed by scooping her up for a kiss!

One unique tradition at the Farm at High Shoals is the Lock Bridge—couples are given a lock with their names inscribed along with two keys. After securing their lock to the bridge following the ceremony, Abigail and Jon threw one key in the creek and the other was a keepsake.

We shot their portraits on the porch, in the vineyards, and then they were introduced with their bridal party at the reception where a special treat awaited them—the first dances were all performed by Steve Tyrell.

Their wedding day was absolutely gorgeous—the perfect southern fairy-tale. Abigail and Jon, may God bless your marriage and may you always live happily ever after!

Mike and Haley's Maternity Session at Hurricane Shoals Park

There’s a little something different on the journal today! When I first started my photography business, I did a little bit of everything…and while I wish I could still do that, weddings were just my calling and I decided to focus on that! But when the occasion arises, and I get to photograph friends, colleagues and brides as they begin new chapters in their lives…it’s pretty amazing!

Mike is a friend and a colleague—and he is a man of many talents! He is a realtor for the Thin Red Line real estate group with Keller Williams, a fire fighter, and a wedding DJ! (Y’all should check him out at Jones Mobile Media!

When he asked me about photographing his family for a maternity/family session, I was super excited! His gorgeous wife Haley is a nurse, and they are expecting their daughter very soon!

We met out at Hurricane Shoals Park for their photos, and Michael, their son, had so much fun running around with his grandmother and exploring between shots…especially when we went down to the river!

It was the first time I’d had the pleasure of meeting his sweet wife, Haley. Have you ever met someone and thought “She is someone I could definitely be friends with!” ? That was my reaction with Haley. She was so laid back, sweet and happy—she truly was a joy to be around!

I am so excited for this sweet family of (soon to be!) four and this new chapter they are embarking on! Congratulations Mike, Haley and Michael!

Dilan and Sydney's Ashton Gardens Atlanta Wedding

There’s just something special about getting to capture the day of high school sweethearts…especially Dilan and Sydney’s wedding. I had the pleasure of teaching Sydney her freshman year at Norcross High School, and I can still see where she used to sit…right in front of the window in my classroom and beside my desk. She always came in with a sweet smile, and was one of those “dream” students every teacher wishes they could fill their classroom with. Her brother, Cole, was the kicker for Norcross High and my husband got to coach him. Their parents, Tye and Stephanie, are still to this day involved at Norcross—even though both of their children have graduated. Stephanie heads up the hospitality for the football team and coordinates meals for the players and makes sure that they get fed. Tye is an active member of the booster club and is always involved in fundraising for the program. They are one of those families that everyone knows and adores, and they are just really special people…so being able to work with them was truly a joy for me!

While in high school, Sydney was not only a great student—she was a wonderful soccer player…and that is how she met Dilan—also a Norcross High soccer player. They are such a sweet couple and the love that they share is truly special—and was evident throughout their beautiful day on Saturday.

When I first arrived at the bride’s home, the girls were getting ready in the pool house so I got to work on Sydney’s details. Her invitation suite was trimmed with her lavender colors and her hoop earrings perfectly coordinated with her necklace and engagement ring. Her barrette was just gorgeous and looked beautiful nestled in her hair. And y’all—her gown—I’m still swooning over it. She looked every bit the real life Cinderella in her glittery ball gown, veil and shoes. She had a special coin that her grandmother gifted her that was a family heirloom from Lebanon that was pinned into her gown, and her classic bouquet was creamy white with pops of lavender.

Once I finished with the details, I transported Sydney’s dress to Ashton Gardens so that we could get a shot of it on the chapel doors before the guys arrived. As soon as the bus dropped the guys off, we pulled them outside for groomsmen photos. Dilan was a trooper and was all smiles even with the July heat and his coat. He had picked his father, Sydney’s father and brother, his brother-in-law and some close friends as his groomsmen.

When the girls arrived, their hair and make-up was finished and they were dressed in matching lavender robes with their monograms. We photographed them in their robes and then Sydney’s mother, Stephanie, helped her into her glittery gown.

We took the girls out for photos and then shortly before the ceremony brought Dilan over so that he and Sydney could pray together. The guitarist played beautifully as the wedding procession began, and when at last Sydney appeared at the chapel doors on the arm of her father, Tye, Dilan was overcome with emotion. The readings took place in both English and Spanish, and the Bible used belonged to Sydney. She and Dilan exchanged vows and had each prepared something to read to the other. There were a lot of tears during that part of the ceremony…from the bride, groom, their parents, wedding guests and I’ll admitt—even I was getting a little teary behind the camera. Their letters were placed in a wine box which they sealed during the ceremony, and they were pronounced husband and wife at which point Dilan took an extra long time kissing his beautiful wife!

As soon as the ceremony was over, we started on family portraits. The sky was darkening with clouds and we hurried with bridal party photos outside as the wind picked up so we could capture portraits of Dilan and Sydney before the rain. We worked fast and finished right as the lightning began and some thunder sounded. Sydney hurried into the dressing room to have her gown bustled, and she and Dilan floated down the grand staircase when they were introduced to the ballroom.

Following dinner, Dilan and Sydney shared an emotional first dance, and then Sydney danced with her father, Tye and Dilan with his mother, Maribel. When Tye gave the toast, he also had Dilan’s sister translate for some of his family, because he wanted to make sure they all could hear the story of how he knew Dilan was perfect for his daughter. Tye told a sweet, heartfelt story of how when Dilan first asked him what he thought about he and Sydney getting married, Tye wanted Sydney to finish school before they were engaged (which was about a year away) and then know where she was going to grad school before they got married. For a lot of guys to have to wait a year before proposing would seem like a long time…but Dilan had so much respect for Sydney and her family that he did what Tye requested without a second thought. Tye commended Dilan’s parents, Carlos and Maribel, for raising such an honorable son.

Dilan is SO thoughtful that during the wedding reception he actually stopped me to make sure my second photographer and I had been able to find time to eat dinner. I was so surprised and so touched by this—and it just further illustrated what an amazing guy Dilan is!

Some of the most memorable moments from the reception were when Tye and Cole jumped into the circle with Dilan to dance to “I’m too Sexy”, when the DJ played the FSU fight song and the entire ballroom erupted in the familiar chant, and lastly the big surprise that Tye had planned for Dilan at the exit.

Tye planned everything out for the exit…he had a traditional limo lined up at the exit and ready to whisk the happy couple away…except it wasn’t. Around the corner was a low-riding powder blue Chevy Impala with hydraulics. As soon as Dilan and Sydney walked between their guests waving good-bye and Dilan stopped to open the limo door for Sydney, it abruptly pulled away. Dilan stopped and said “Where is it going??” then, around the corner, the Chevy came bumping and bouncing along as guests began to shout, laugh and Dilan’s eyes widened and his mouth dropped open…his expression was priceless!! Amid laughing and cheering guests Dilan helped Sydney into the car, and they pulled away to the end of their wedding celebration but the beginning of their happily ever after. Dilan and Sydney, thank you SO much for allowing me the privilege of capturing your beautiful day! You are both so special, and I pray that God will bless your marriage as you start this new chapter in your lives! Congratulations!!
