Daniel and Casey: The Greystone Estate

I met Daniel and Casey through Daniel’s dad, Bob. Bob and I would shoot the Norcross games on the sidelines where I stepped out of my portrait comfort zone and into the world of sports photography—where Bob excels. He taught me a lot about sports and he would often talk about his son, Daniel.

Daniel and Casey met their freshman year at the University of Georgia (Go Dawgs!). After dating for several years, Daniel proposed one evening while walking on the beach in Cancun. We shot their engagement session at UGA (SO fun!) and they came across The Greystone Estate by accident but fell in love with it and decided it would be the perfect venue for their wedding day.

Saturday was unusually cool for a day in June—but we were really thankful for that! Casey and her sweet bridesmaids were dressing in the bridal cottage when I arrived. After working on her details, which included a comfortable pair of Kate Spade Keds and a garter than belonged to her mother, we met the guys over in the groom’s suite for pictures. Daniel was sporting UGA cufflinks and socks, and we photographed Bob helping him dress and then went outside with the guys for some photos.

After wrapping their portraits up, we headed back to photograph Casey dressing. Her mother, Michelle, helped her into her stunning bridal gown, and after a sweet first look with her bridesmaids, we captured the sweetest moment when her father saw her for the first time. Casey was emotional as he made his way to her for a hug and I was tearing up….father/daughter first looks get me every time y’all!

We were in a bit of a crunch to get the bridal photos and Casey with her girls, but they were so awesome and easy to work with that we got through it in time (even while chasing bees away from Casey’s bouquet!) and got them out the door on time for the ceremony at La Salette Catholic Church in Canton.

Daniel was all smiles as his beautiful bride made her way down the aisle escorted by her father, and the two were pronounced man and wife!

Back at Greystone we worked with family, the bridal party and then Daniel and Casey to capture some gorgeous images! Then, it was back to the reception where the bridal party was introduced and Daniel and Casey shared their first dance as husband and wife. The reception hall was beautifully decorated with Eucalyptus, gold candle holders, and a stunning cake with ruffled peonies. Family and friends enjoyed a delicious southern meal and then fellowship and dancing before Daniel and Casey were sent off with cheers and a red stretch limousine. Daniel and Casey truly had a beautiful day surrounded by the people they loved most—and it was such an honor for me to capture these memories for them! I wish them both a lifetime of blessings, love and laughter…congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Chadwick!

Chase and Lauren: Yonah Mountain Vineyard Wedding

Lauren and Chase met in the North Georgia Mountains at Young Harris College…which is also where he popped the question…so it was only fitting that they tied the knot in a similar setting at Yonah Mountain Vineyards!

I met Lauren and Chase through my sweet January couple, Cassie and Parker—and it was so special for me to get to shoot both of their weddings!! Lauren and Chase were in Cassie and Parker’s wedding, and Saturday, Cassie and Parker were returning the favor as bridesmaid and groomsmen for Chase and Lauren!

Saturday was a beautiful day up in the North Georgia mountains! Lauren and her gorgeous girls were hanging out at the Urban Farmhouse in Cleveland before heading over to the venue. Lauren had gifted them with navy monogrammed pajamas and personalized wine cooler cups, and they had a great time hanging out and grabbing a bite to eat! Y’all, despite a few minor mishaps at the wedding (Chase discovering that the dry cleaner had given him the wrong shirt, and the realization that Chase’s mother was unknowingly cut and bleeding, which happened to get on Lauren’s veil 30 minutes before the ceremony) Lauren and Chase were just content to enjoy their day! I never saw them get stressed or panicked—they had a “go with the flow” attitude the entire day, and that says a lot about not only their personalities but what was important to them—that they were about to join their lives together, and that was the most important thing!

They exchanged vows on a mountain top overlooking the Yonah Mountain vineyards…it was truly breathtaking and dreamy. Lauren was the epitome of a fairy-tale bride in her gorgeous, sweeping wedding gown, and I’m still in love with her vibrant blue Badgley Mischka shoes! Chase enjoyed showing his groomsmen his personal dance, the “Hanky Leg” and at the reception, the tables were adorned with beautiful cut glass pink goblets and cascades of flower arrangements.

The guests mingled outside on the manicured lawn under the string lights and danced inside. We grabbed a special picture of all of the Young Harris graduates. Holly, Houston and Jordan gave great speeches that had everyone laughing, and finally Chase and Lauren ended their night exiting through a line of LED sparklers. It was a beautiful celebration in a stunning setting…Lauren and Chase, you were an absolute joy to know and work with—and when September rolls around and Lauren is done with her job training, I hope y’all have an amazing honeymoon in Mexico!!

Nick and Caitlin

Nick and Caitlin met in the summer of 2014 after they both graduated from undergrad. They were both working as summer program staff at Camp Twin Lakes- a camp for children with chronic illnesses, disabilities and other life challenges. That summer they both applied for and were chosen for a year-long fellowship position. They spent the next year living at camp, working alongside each other as fellows for countless week-long and weekend camps, and by the next summer they were best friends!

On June 9, 2018, Nick picked Caitlin up for a nice date night. He surprised her by making a stop at Camp Twin Lakes on their way to dinner. He led Caitlin to the exact spot where their first date took place, got down on one knee, and asked Caitlin to marry him. It was the easiest question she’s ever answered and of course she said YES…and that was the beginning of their journey to the alter.

I’ve had a lot of weddings where the forecast was looking dreary the week before…and then we ended up having a beautiful day after all….but I’ve never had one where we were watching the 95% chance of storms in real time and the pop up showers surrounding us….and yet the entire day it only rained 5 minutes. A lot of prayers went up for Caitlin and Nick to have a gorgeous wedding day….and y’all…those prayers were answered in the most amazing way!

I customize a photography timeline with every one of my couples…and Caitlin and I spent time going over it, making sure it would flow and work for her day. We were ready…but then the forecast changed all of that. Going into the day, I knew if the forecast held, the only chance of getting portraits of Nick and Caitlin together minus umbrellas would be earlier in the day…earlier than we had planned. I spoke with Caitlin and her hair dresser and make-up artist who were so awesome in being flexible…and they agreed to have Caitlin and her sweet mother ready within the hour so we could get to the first look.

Jenn, Caitlin’s Maid of Honor and the other girls were so sweet, accommodating and easy to work with…they all agreed that Caitlin and Nick’s photos were the most important and were more than happy to do anything they could to help me make those happen. So, with the timeline thrown out the window, we set into the rainy day back-up plan.

Once Caitlin’s mother, Nancy, zipped her into her gorgeous gown in front of the arched window at the James Madison Inn, we grabbed a few family shots and then I walked with Caitlin across the street for her first look with Nick. Trish, my second shooter, was on radar duty…and between helping me and shooting she was checking the storms on her phone. We saw they were approaching and the dark gray clouds in the distance and wind picking up confirmed they weren’t far away.

We like to make the first look as close to the bride walking down the aisle as possible….and a lot of photographers will have the bride walk up to the groom and tap them on the shoulder, but we’ve found that by doing that the groom can’t see all of his bride…so we like to have the bride walk toward the groom and call his name. That way, when he turns around, he gets the full effect of his bride walking toward him just as she would down the aisle. When Caitlin called Nick’s name, his face lit up with a huge smile as he turned to see her walking toward him. They shared a few sweet, private moments and then we went right into portraits to beat the coming storms.

When you have a cathedral length veil and long gown, wind can be your best friend during portraits…and that was the case with Caitlin! The wind tossed and blew her veil and we got some amazing shots!! We worked fast and then took them back to the James Madison to get a few more in front of the inn. Trish warned me we only had minutes until the storm was on us, and just as we finished we felt a slight drizzle. And then…the most amazing thing happened on the radar. The pop up storm that was imminent fizzled out and disappeared. It was as if we had a shield over us, and we had 2-3 minutes of drizzle and then back to gray skies, but no rain.

The next hour and a half was just the same as we worked to get in the bridal party photos….a storm would approach, we were sure it would hit, and then it would either break and go North or dissipate before it reached us. Amazing…but God was at work and answering prayers!

Nick and Caitlin’s ceremony was Christ-centered and sweet…they tied three cords together in a braid to symbolize how their relationship was grounded in Christ, and sealed their vows with a kiss. After the ceremony, we grabbed a few “just married” photos and then it was time to celebrate!

The reception was gorgeous, and as always, Chasity, the coordinator at Variety Works did a fantastic job setting up. Prayers were answered and we avoided rain and storms…and the day turned out just as beautiful as Caitlin and Nick had hoped and prayed for. Proverbs 18:22 says “He who finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor from the Lord.” Nick and Caitlin—I believe you have both found a good thing in one another….may the Lord’s favor fall upon you as you begin this amazing journey of marriage. Thank you for the privilege of capturing these memories for you!

Natalie and Alex--In the Woods

When I hear from a couple, usually it’s the bride who reaches out—but when I first got an email from Natalie and Alex, Alex was the one who sent it. That caught my attention and made me curious to know this couple! I invited them to come to the Duluth bridal show where I was a vendor so we could meet, and something just told me “that’s them” when I saw them walking up to my booth.

I’ve been really blessed to have some amazing couples—and I knew right away they would be awesome to work with and a blessing to get to know.

I loved hearing the story of how they met when we shot their engagement session in Gainesville. Natalie and Alex first met online, and arranged a date at a restaurant in Gainesville called the Monkey Barrel. When Natalie arrived early, she was shopping close by and noticed a guy walking by in a yellow shirt. She thought to herself, “Wow, I wish that was the guy I was meeting!” Little did she know it was Alex. Out of an abundance of caution, Natalie had given both her number as well as Alex’s number to her friend and Maid of Honor, Missy. When Natalie didn’t check in, Missy got worried and began calling Natalie. When Natalie didn’t answer, she called Alex. By the time Natalie and Alex parted ways, Natalie had 5 missed calls, 3 voicemails and multiple text messages. Fortunately, their date turned out pretty well, and I’m sure Missy forgave Natalie for worrying her.

Two years later, Alex and Natalie were visiting Glacier National Park in Montana. Alex had originally planned to propose at Iceberg Lake, but had to revert to his plan B when that location was closed due to grizzly bears. His plan B involved a 12 mile round trip hike to Grinnell Glacier, and after making the location and getting his nerves up to propose, the words that came out of Alex’s mouth weren’t exactly what he had planned, and the next thing he knew, Natalie was excitedly agreeing to get another dog. Alex regrouped, was able to get the right words out the second time, and the two became engaged!

April 6th was a cloudy but beautiful day out at In the Woods in Rockmart, Georgia. Knowing their love of the outdoors, it was easy to see why they chose this gorgeous venue as their wedding location. Curving paths led to the multiple locations throughout the property, and the ceremony was in a gorgeous arched and open chapel outside overlooking the lake.

Y’all, if I haven’t already said it, Alex is a sentimental sweetheart. He teared up when he opened his gift from Natalie—a beautiful watch. He also had their initials, their wedding date, and the latitude/longitude locations from where they met, got engaged and their wedding location engraved on his cufflinks.

After working with the guys, Kristal and I arrived back at the bridal cabin to find the girls intensely engaged in a card game. We pulled them outside to do some shots in their gorgeous, lace trimmed robes, and then it was time for Natalie to get dressed.

Natalie’s maid of honor, Kathleen, described Natalie perfectly at her toast when she called her “poised”. Natalie is every inch the classic, poised, elegant, southern bride. Her gown was a classic, off the shoulder and long sleeved and her cathedral length lace trimmed veil was breathtaking.

We were dealing with a little wind and some sun peeking out of the clouds every once in a while when we went out for Natalie’s bridal portraits…but when you have a cathedral length veil, wind can be your best friend!

Finally, it was time for the ceremony. Natalie’s mom surprised her with live painter for the ceremony and reception. Caroline Stroud was already set up and working on her background when Kristal and I arrived to grab some detailed shots before the ceremony. The cross at the alter was draped in a garland of blush roses and eucalyptus, and wreaths of the same flowers covered the tops of the barrels at the entrance of the aisle. When the gates opened and Natalie and her father began to walk through, Alex was overcome with emotion as he watched his beautiful bride walk toward him.

Their ceremony included a unity candle, and personal vows they wrote for one another. They were pronounced man and wife and were all smiles as they exited the chapel.

At the reception, Alex had a cake that resembled a football field with the Clemson football helmet on it. The tables were decorated in bouquets of white and blush pink flowers, and an amazing spread of southern staples lined the buffet.

Alex and Natalie shared their first dance followed by first dances with Alex’s mom and Natalie’s dad. After dinner, we whisked them back out to the dock to grab some stunning night images of them with the outdoor lights that lined the rails. When we returned, the toasts were given, the cake cut, and the dancing was followed by a sparkler send off.

I can’t say enough about how sweet and special this couple is—I have had an amazing and blessed experience getting to work with them and capture these special moments for them! Alex and Natalie, I can’t thank you enough for allowing me to be part of this chapter in your lives. I pray that God blesses your marriage, and I wish you days filled with laugher, joy and love.

Saturday March 30 was a gorgeous spring day out at the Buford Community Center where Adam and Sarah were tying the knot! When I got to know them at their engagement session, I learned that like me, Sarah was from Georgia, and Adam, like my husband, was from Alabama. My husband once told me when you were born in Alabama you had to pick a side—and both he and Adam are Alabama grads. I gave Adam a hard time about that, because this Georgia alumnae gets enough grief from my husband and his family (especially these last few years since Kirby came aboard) ;-)

Sarah’s colors and details were beautiful—her sweet sparkly shoes had bows on the back, and her something old was the beautiful pair of diamond earrings that belonged to her grandmother. Adam and Sarah’s sweet miniature schnauzer, Addie, made a quick appearance for some photos and even she coordinated with their wedding colors!

When we went out for her bridal portraits, the wind was picking up—but I didn’t mind because we got some gorgeous shots of Sarah’s lace trimmed gown blowing in the breeze!

When it was time for their first look, and Adam turned to see his beautiful bride walking toward him, his face literally lit up. He dried the tears from Sarah’s eyes, and after a few sweet moments, they were ready to grab a few portraits with Addie!

I loved how Sarah and Adam incorporated their families into their day! They had their seven nieces and nephews in the bridal party, and the kids did really well—about 30 minutes before the ceremony when they were in the hallway waiting, they were entertained with a an episode of “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood”.

After a God-centered ceremony where Adam and Sarah shared communion, they were pronounced “man and wife” and we braved the wind for some combined family photos outside followed by some “just married” photos.

Another neat story was Sarah’s Uncle—he brought his vintage blue car out for their exit, and surprised them with flags that said “just married” and a hand made sign when they ran through the sparklers.

Sarah and Adam’s day was sweet, beautiful, and filled with joy. One thing I have really noticed about these two in photographing them is that they are truly filled with JOY when they are around one another. Sarah and Adam, I hope you always keep that joy as you begin this next chapter in your lives! Thank you for allowing me to capture this sweet day for you! May God bless you, your marriage, and your family!

Tommy and Chelsea-- 9 Oaks Farm

Saturday, March 23 was probably the most beautiful day we’ve had in 2019! The weather was perfect, the sun was shining and the spring greens were beginning to bud out on all of the trees at 9 Oaks Farm in Monroe, Georgia, where Chelsea and Tommy were getting married.

Chelsea loved the farmhouse look of 9 Oaks Farm and she loved all of the things that 9 Oaks includes with their weddings. (9 Oaks is one of my favorite venues so I second all of that!) On, who owns the property and creates all of the floral designs for her brides, did a stunning job on Chelsea’s bouquet! The colors complimented her rose gold color scheme and blended beautifully with the bridesmaid dresses that she picked.

After shooting details, my second photographer, Kristal, and I went to hang out with the guys. Tommy was relaxed and smiling and enjoying the day—he didn’t seem a bit nervous! The girls were putting the finishing touches on their make-up (Ya’ll…Chelsea did her OWN make-up!) and then we went out in front of the big farmhouse to get some shots of them in their robes. Once Chelsea was in her gown, we headed back out for bridal portraits and pictures with her family. Chelsea’s strapless lace gown was completed by her cathedral length, lace trimmed veil…and ya’ll…she was just stunning!

Tommy and Chelsea shared a sweet first look and then we shot their portraits. When it came time for the ceremony, everyone attending was all smiles as the ring bearers and flower girl came down the aisle pulling a wagon with two sweet baby girls in lace dresses. Chelsea’s friend Dale officiated and she and Tommy wrote letters to one another and put them into a wine box to open on their one year anniversary. The great thing about a first look is that it allows you double the portrait time…so after family photos, we shot their “just married” photos and utilized the rope swing located behind the white farmhouse.

DJ Randy introduced the bridal party and during their first dance, guests showered dollar bills on the newlywed couple. Chelsea’s mother made the cakes and they were beautiful! After dinner, cake cutting and dancing with glow glasses and sunglasses that read “Crunk in love” Tommy and Chelsea enjoyed an awesome fireworks show by DJ Randy and a sparkler send off. I am so excited that I was able to share this time with them and capture these memories! Chelsea, I wish you and Tommy a blessed life together!!

Chase and Lindsey--The Variety Works

When I first spoke with Lindsey, one of the reasons we connected was because we were both moms! Chase is a firefighter in Loganville, which is where I grew up, and they have two handsome boys—Cason and Watson. To be able to capture the day that these four officially became a family was really special!

Their day began at the James Madison Inn, which is located in historic Madison and right next to The Variety Works wedding venue. We had a few sprinkles but the rain and clouds soon gave way to sun in the afternoon! Lindsey’s gown was absolutely stunning—and she looked every inch the classic southern bride with her cathedral length veil and her gorgeous bouquet created by JL Designs that included cotton blossoms! We took advantage of the southern-style porch of the James Madison Inn for the shots of Lindsey with her bridesmaids in their lace trimmed robes and her mom zipping her into her gown.

Lindsey included her sweet boys in her day, and Cason had a great time getting groomsmen shots with his dad! When it came time for the ceremony, and Lindsey began her walk down the aisle with her dad, Chase’s eyes filled with tears as he watched Lindsey gliding toward him.

Their God-centered ceremony included a rustic cross with three cords that Lindsey and Chase braided, payers, and a joy-filled kiss as they were pronounced husband and wife! After capturing some beautiful portraits of Chase and Lindsey at the front of the James Madison and the gorgeous lawn of The Variety Works, the couple was ready to celebrate their marriage and party at the reception! They shared their first dance and meal together, and when it came time for cake cutting, Lindsey couldn’t help herself and playfully wiped some cake on Chase’s nose. After the father-daughter and mother-son dances, Chase and Lindsey grabbed their boys and shared a sweet family dance. One of the most memorable moments of the reception was when it came time for the bouquet and garter toss, and Chase danced out of the back room dressed in his firefighter jacket and hat to retrieve Lindsey’s garter…the whole room was laughing!

Their beautiful day closed with a romantic sparkler send-off. I am so excited for this sweet family as they offically embark on the journey of life together. Chase and Lindsey, congratulations! I wish you and your sweet family every joy and blessing imaginable!

Justin and Bryn

The week before Justin and Bryn’s wedding, the forecast wasn’t looking good. I’ve learned too not trust the weather forecast until pretty much 24 hours out, and sometimes even that isn’t accurate…but in watching, I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen so many changes—it was almost comical—it went from 50% chance of rain to 30% chance of rain, to possible snow flurries and freezing temperatures after dark, to sunny and 0% chance of rain, back to rain and finally the day before 10% chance of rain….the final verdict was that we got a quick rain shower early that morning and then some sun and clouds the rest of the day with temperatures near 60—lots of prayers went up for Bryn and Justin to have a beautiful day, and ultimately, those prayers were answered!

Bryn grew up in New Jersey and Justin grew up in Georgia. Both went to the University of Georgia (my alma mater…GO DAWGS!!) and graduated this past May. Bryn had a UGA garter and Justin’s groom cake was probably the most awesome one I’ve ever seen!! (Keep scrolling—you’ll see it!) If I can, I always love to incorporate something special into the detail shots…and a few days before their wedding I was out at an antique store when I came across some oval brass numbers. Curious, I asked the owner of the shop what they were—and when she told me they were seat numbers in the 1960’s of chairs in Sanford Stadium, I knew I had found the perfect thing to use! I dug around for a few moments and found the numbers to make up their wedding date—I was pretty excited about this little find!

Bryn and Justin were getting married at Indigo Falls—which was nestled down in a valley and resembled a rustic but elegant village. The reception hall was across from a flagstone courtyard with a fireplace, string lights and rocking chairs that invited guests to sit and enjoy the cozy view. There is an outdoor bar with a winding wooden bridge connected to a small water wheel and a covered bridge leading to the ceremony location which overlooks the lake. Paved pathways lined with outdoor lights encircle the lake, inviting guests to meander through the peaceful property. When I arrived at Indigo Falls, Bryn and her beautiful bridesmaids were busy with hair and make-up. I started on detailed shots and a while later, their caterer, who was AMAZING, brought sandwiches and the most amazing chocolate covered strawberries for lunch—and she had prepared enough for me and my second photographer!! (Which was a first for us!)

After shooting Bryn with her girls, and Justin with his guys, we prepped for the first look down by the lake. Justin was all smiles when he turned to see his stunning bride—and after a few sweet private moments, they were ready for their portraits.

At 5:00, the shuttles began bringing guests down to the ceremony location. The peaked outdoor location was beautifully adorned with white sheer drapes, and cascades of burgundy, dusty pink and cream roses. A lighted chandelier hung over a rustic cross also draped with roses.

The guests were enjoying the string quartet as they found their seats and one of Bryn’s sorority sisters was busy painting the background on the canvas that would depict a scene from their wedding. On her father’s arm, Bryn seemed to float down the stone steps in her gown, and she and Justin exchanged vows and rings, and sealed their promises with a kiss.

I followed Bryn and Justin out to the small island in the middle of the lake where we shot some “just married” portraits and then they hurried to cocktail hour to enjoy their guests, the giant bowl of shrimp cocktail and the professional cigar roller who was busy making custom cigars for guests. Inside the reception hall, there was a 9 foot Ice cream bar, a full bar for guests, a five-layer wedding cake ringed with red roses, and the toast glasses that Bryn’s mother and father celebrated with at their wedding, nestled in a pile of rose petals.

At the reception, Justin and Bryn shared their first dance, and that was followed by Bryn’s dance with her father. One of the sweetest moments was when Bryn teared up and her father gently wiped a tear from her cheek. After Justin and his mother’s dance, the servers began to flood the room with plated dinners for the guests.

Following the toasts, cake-cutting and bouquet and garter toss, the 1965 Corvette that Bryn and Justin were to drive away in was pulled down under the covered bridge—and I took advantage of it being there with some portraits! Once the last dance was played, the guests lined the road with sparkers to send Justin and Bryn off in the Corvette! It was truly a gorgeous day, and one I know Justin and Bryn will always remember! I am so honored to have been able to capture their day—it’s definitely one I will always remember!! Justin and Bryn, may God bless you on this new journey—and GO DAWGS!!

Parker and Cassie

When I first met Cassie, there was just something about her that was so genuine and sweet it was impossible not to love her after only a few minutes of hanging out over coffee!

Parker was just as sweet when I met him at their engagement session in Madison that summer. They were so easy to photograph, and full of natural smiles and laughter—just a joy and comfort with one another that made it evident that they were soul mates. Their families were also amazing—they have such kind parents who were an absolute joy to work with.

Their wedding took place at Empire Mills on January 26, 2019. Despite the cool weather, the sun was shining all day—which really helped when we trekked outside for photos!

Cassie was absolutely breathtaking in her lace and tulle gown and the colors she picked for her beautiful bridesmaids were perfect for a soft, romantic, January wedding! And ya’ll—this bride was all about comfort—she sported some brand new Nike tennis shoes under her gown!

After photographing the girls and Cassie, we prepped for Cassie and Parker’s first look—and it’s one I will never forget! Before Kristal, my second photographer, walked Parker out to the location he was already emotional just thinking about his beautiful bride-to-be. Once Cassie called his name and began to walk toward him, I have to be honest—my eyes were watering as I was shooting! It was one of the sweetest, most emotional first looks I’ve ever had the honor of capturing.

We walked them to the back field area behind the venue to get a few portraits, and then saved the sunset time for their “just married” photos.

The ceremony was also sweet, with lots of happy tears, and Cassie and Parker beamed after sharing their first kiss as husband and wife and turned to face their family and friends.

After some gorgeous “just married” photos with the sun setting behind them, they were introduced as husband and wife and the celebration began!

As the whole day had been, the first dances were all sweet and emotional, and when the toasts began, they all commented on how special these two individuals are.

Cassie and Parker cut their cake, and then Cassie ascended to the “Juliet” balcony to toss her bouquet. They ended their beautiful celebration with a sparkler send off!

As far as father-of-the-brides go, I have to tell you—I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a bride’s father work as hard as Cassie’s did to make sure his daughter’s day was perfect! Mr. Chupp was the first person who met me at the venue with Cassie’s details, he helped hang the dresses on matching hangers, he was involved in setting up, running things back and forth, and he even set out the sparkler stands for her exit. His love for his daughter was evident in how hard he worked that day, and it was truly touching to see!

Sweet couples like Cassie and Parker remind me why I love what I do. To have the couple’s confidence in capturing their day, their trust in being present for private moments like their first look, and the responsibility to tell their story is something I consider an honor—particularly for Cassie and Parker. Proverbs 18:22 says “He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the Lord.” Parker has definitely found a good wife in Cassie—and she a good husband. It was absolutely a privilege for me to be able to work with Cassie, Parker and their families! May God bless you both with his favor as you begin this new chapter in your lives!

Jeremiah and Whitney

Before I went back to UGA for photography, I was an English teacher, and my first year teaching was at Carver Middle School in Monroe. That year I had sweet student named Whitney in my 8th grade English class. Her mom was one of the English teachers in my department. Whitney was always a great student—and I’m so glad we’ve kept in touch!

I was thrilled for her when she got engaged to Jeremiah—and when I met him at their engagement session I adored him! Jeremiah is perfect for Whitney…he’s sweet, polite and a true Southern gentleman! They planned to marry at the church where Whitney’s parents tied the knot—that was a special place for their family.

January 19th started out rainy…and the later prospects didn’t look much better! It didn’t bother Whitney…she was content to enjoy her wedding day no matter what the forecast had in store!

We got a little break in the rain and braved the drizzle to head out with clear umbrellas for photos. The girls were so sweet and more than willing to head out in the elements to make sure Whitney got great photos! Whitney’s sister, Bethany, was her matron of honor, and Bethany’s husband, Jody, held a big umbrella over me to keep the camera lens from getting wet. (Thanks, Jody!!)

A few minutes before the ceremony, we saw that a wall of rain was coming—so after a sweet, God-centered ceremony where Jeremiah’s father pronounced them husband and wife, I whisked them outside to grab some photos before the downpour! We were JUST in time….we got Jeremiah and Whitney’s portraits in and the bridal party photos before the heavy rain set in.

The reception took place in the fellowship hall behind the church where lots of love went into the decorations and amazing food! Whitney and Jeremiah shared their first dance as a married couple, cut their cake and toasted with punch. They were surrounded by their closest family and friends, and despite the weather, it was a special, beautiful day! I’m so honored that I was able to capture their wedding…especially having known Whitney since she was in 8th grade! I’m so proud of the lady she’s grown up to be and that God sent Jeremiah to share her life. They are truly a sweet couple…and I wish them a lifetime of blessings and happiness!

John and Alex--The Willows Farm

November 10 was sunny but cool up in Marble Hill, Georgia at The Willows Farm. Alex and her girls were dressing in the beautiful rooms upstairs while the ceremony was being moved to the indoor location downstairs. Originally, Alex and John had planned to have their ceremony overlooking the lake, but cool temperatures and steady winds changed their minds.

When I first met Alex and John, we shot their engagement session in Roswell in December. Alex was a British Literature major just like me, so we really hit it off—especially when I learned she loved Jane Austen as much as I do! (I bought a copy of Alex’s favorite—Persuasion—to incorporate with her detail photos!)

The Willows Farm is a beautiful venue full of treasures, including some striking black doors that used to be in a castle (check out Alex’s bridal portraits for a glimpse of those!) I think other than marrying John, one of the things Alex was most looking forward to was getting to take some bridal portraits with Lily, one of the resident horses. Alex grew up at the barn riding, and horses are in her blood.

Lily had been bathed and groomed just for the occasion, and Alex’s face lit up when she rounded the corner to see her by the willow tree. After hanging out with the guys, and shooting Alex’s bridal portrait with Lily, we prepped for the ceremony. John and Alex come from different backgrounds but meld so beautifully together! John was raised Catholic, and Alex was Jewish, so John’s family priest and Alex’s Rabbi were on hand to jointly perform their ceremony.

Their ceremony was beautiful with candles, string lights, and flowers lining the aisle. Alex’s father escorted her down the aisle to her beaming groom, and after vows, signing the Ketubah, and breaking the glass, they shared their first kiss as husband and wife.

We shot Alex and John’s portraits on the hill overlooking the mountains in the distance, and by the lake where their ceremony was originally going to take place. It was cold, so Alex opted to wear her beautiful pashmina—and I think the colors are just stunning!

The reception was so much fun…the family celebrated under a massive antique crystal chandelier, danced the Hora, and lined the sidewalk for Alex and John’s sparkler exit out to the awaiting trolley. It was truly a beautiful day and I was so excited to be able to capture it for them! Alex and John—congratulations on your marriage! I wish you a lifetime of happiness together!

Brad and Brittany--Fairweather Farms

I remember Brittany when she was a little girl with a curly ponytail coming to her sister’s school events. I went to middle and high school with her older sisters, Dori and April. So, when she got engaged and her family asked me to photograph her wedding, I was thrilled!! (Although, I still can’t believe she’s old enough to get married!!)

Brad and Brittany’s story began when Brad was hired by April, Brittany’s oldest sister. According to April, at their lunch interview, Brad was polite, a complete gentleman, and told her no matter what, he was thankful and blessed for the opportunity. That struck a chord with April, and Brad was hired. Brittany was also working for the company at the time, so they became co-workers. Before Brad came into the picture, Brittany’s family was rocked by tragedy when her brother-in-law, Stephen, who was married to her sister Dori, was killed in a car accident. I remember that day and even where I was…my husband and I were driving to an event when a mutual friend sent me a message. I was stunned. Dori and Stephen were high school sweethearts, and Dori was left with their baby daughter to raise. This tragedy greatly impacted Brittany, and for a while, she closed off her heart—she never wanted to have to walk the road her precious sister had. Meeting and spending time with Brad changed that outlook, and Brad was the one who taught Brittany that it was okay to love someone deeply.

When I hung out with them at their engagement session, I was struck by how attentive and sweet Brad was to Brittany. He was everything April described—a soft-spoken, sweet gentleman who was quite smitten with his lively, vivacious fiancee.

Their wedding day took place on November 3 at Fairweather Farms in Monroe. It was a gorgeous, cool fall day when I arrived, and as always, I set to work on the details. Brittany’s colors were beautiful and perfectly blended with the fall colors outside the three story lodge where the bridal party was dressing. There was a wall of windows overlooking an ancient oak, and beyond that was the lake.

After bridal party photos, it was time for the daddy-daughter first look. Brittany was the youngest Banks girl, and when her sweet daddy turned to take in the sight of his baby girl dressed in her wedding gown, he immediately slipped on sunglasses to hide his tears.

Their ceremony took place under the curved branches of the oak. Brad was all smiles as Brittany was escorted by her father down the aisle, and after putting together a rustic cross to represent God in their union, they sealed their vows with a kiss.

We were in a rush to get photos before the sun set, and after the family and bridal party photos, Andrea, the property manager, had her SUV running and waiting to drive us to the top of the property for photos. We shot some gorgeous photos by the oak tree and when we were on the way back, we all smelled a strong smell…and then watched as a skunk ambled out of the tall grass! I have to say, that was a first for me when shooting a wedding!

The reception was a cozy gathering of close family and friends…a fire lit up the center of the room and vintage lights were strung all around the room. Brittany and Brad shared their first dance as husband and wife, and then Mr. Banks cut in for the father daughter dance. Brad danced with his mother and the guests spent the rest of the evening chatting, eating, and hanging out at the milkshake bar. A sparkler send off concluded the beautiful day, and Brad and Brittany began their happily ever after! I am so honored to have been able to be a part of Brittany’s special day…it truly meant so much to me to be the one who got to capture these images for her! Brad and Brittany—I wish you a blessing-filled marriage! Congratulations!

Travis and Emily--9 Oaks Farm

Working with Travis and Emily over the past year reinforces why I love what I do. We shot their engagement session out at Vines Park in Loganville in the spring, and as we were walking, I placed them under a cherry tree because the lighting was beautiful. As I was directing them in how to pose, the wind blew, and petals began too flutter down from the tree limbs. I quickly called out to Travis to pull Emily in for a kiss, and without a second thought he acted and we got an amazing shot that has been one of my favorite engagement photos to date. As I got to know them, I found out we shared a lot of similarities! My pastor, and his wife are named Travis and Emily. Travis’s sister’s name was Emmie, which is my daughter’s name, and Emily’s niece, who was the flower girl, was named Audrey! As Travis said—it was just meant to be that we ended up working together! This couple has been down to earth, genuine and just makes you feel at ease when you are around them.

The weather finally cooled down for their October 21, 2018 wedding. I don’t think they could have dreamed of a better day! The sun was shining, the temperature was cool, and the tase of fall was in the air! (Finally!!)

Emily and her girls were getting ready in the bridal suite, and after saying hello, I started photographing her details. Her bouquet was absolutely breathtaking—the colors were vibrant and the design was exquisite—On, the owner of 9 Oaks who designs the florals, has never ceased to amaze me with her eye for detail, and her floral designs are really a work of art. When I was almost finished, Jacki, their wedding coordinator was decorating their favors table with the cutest white pumpkins trimmed with lace and burlap and tags. I ended up using one for some of the detail shots.

When the guys arrived, I pulled Travis out so he could read his letter from Emily, and then worked with the guys and Travis and his immediate family for their photos. Once I finished with them, I hurried back over to capture a few more photos of Emily getting ready, and then took the girls out in front of the White House on the property to get some photos of them in their monogrammed flannel shirts. Emily’s mother zipped her into her elegant gown, and we headed outside for a first look with her bridesmaids. The lighting outside was just beautiful, and Emily truly looked angelic as we worked to shoot her bridal portraits.

The ceremony took place at the bridge, which was adorned with a gorgeous arch of flowers, magnolia leaves and eucalyptus. It was just gorgeous…the curve of the bridge and the flowers provided a beautiful frame for the ceremony photos. Their ceremony was God-centered and sweet, and when they sealed their vows with a kiss and started down the aisle, Travis dipped Emily for another kiss.

We worked with the family and bridal party, and then with Travis and Emily. They were so easy to work with—their smiles were genuine, bright, and infectious. When they were introduced at the reception, they went right into their first dance. It was so sweet to watch them quietly sing to to one another as they swayed to the music. Emily’s father gave an emotional welcome, and the couple and their guests enjoyed a barbecue dinner followed by gourmet cupcakes. After the father-daughter and mother-son dances, Emily and Travis played the shoe game, in which Emily’s shoes were raised quite a bit more than Travis’s were. She tossed the bouquet and he threw the garter, and they enjoyed a last song surrounded by their family and friends. They exited to a tunnel of sparklers where Travis dipped Emily (twice) and helped her into their car. It was a beautiful day filled with love, laughter, and the sweetness of two lives becoming one. Travis and Emily, it was truly an honor to be a part of your love story, and a blessing to work with you both. I wish you a lifetime of love, laughter, happiness, and may God always bless you in your future together.

Lawton and Chandler--The Villa Christina Hyatt Regency, Atlanta

Saturday was a beautiful day in Atlanta for Lawton and Chandler’s wedding. I knew Chandler’s mom, Kim, from my days when I was teaching at Norcross High. In fact, Chandler was a student in my husband’s math class when she attended Norcross, so it was an absolute joy for me to be able to capture their wedding!

When I arrived at the Villa Christina, Chandler and her attendants were busy getting ready! Her details were just gorgeous—her earrings reminded me of angel wings when I put them together on her bouquet to photograph, and her shoes were the most vibrant color blue and adorned with sparkling jewels. Her stunning veil had belonged to her mother—what an amazing heirloom and sweet tribute to her amazing mom!

Chandler had chosen Julian, one of her good friends, as her “bride man” and he was so much fun to be around! (And, the girls found him quite convenient to have around with all the pockets he had to store their items) Meanwhile, Lawton was hanging out with his groomsmen while watching football and snacking (with Georgia plates of course)

Lawton and Chandler opted for a first look and decided to get all the photos in prior to the ceremony so they could relax and celebrate after they said their vows. The clouds were building in the afternoon, and after shooting Lawton with his groomsmen and Chandler with her attendants, Chandler went in to cool off before her first look with Lawton. It may have been the first weekend in October, but this is Georgia—and ya’ll locals know how fall goes down here in the south—this “fall” weekend, the high was 90!

We placed Lawton, and brought Chandler out when she was ready. After a few sweet moments, we moved on to their portraits, making sure to use Chandler’s stunning veil in several shots! We followed their portrait time with family photos, and Chandler’s maid of honor, Alexa, was amazing at pulling family members in and out of the combinations for an incredibly efficient family portrait time!

Their ceremony took place outside, and as guests filed in they picked up ribbon streamers. White pumpkins spilling over with flowers paired with navy pumpkins lined the aisle, and two beautiful flower arrangements marked the alter. Chandler walked down the aisle with her father and before she reached Lawton, she stopped and embraced her mother. Lawton wiped away a few tears and they stood together and exchanged their vows.

Once they were pronounced man and wife, they joyfully came down the aisle and Lawton dipped Chandler for a kiss amid a sea of waving ribbon streamers. They made their way to the portico where Chandler’s bridesmaids bustled her gown and they had some refreshments. Following that, we went out to the front of the hotel for some shots and then headed to the reception.

The ballroom was beautifully decorated with floral centerpieces, gold chargers, and navy napkins. A wall of donuts on pegs greeted guests as they filed into the ballroom. The bridal party was introduced, followed by the first dances, and then dinner was served. After dinner, the live band began playing and they were amazing! The guests danced and celebrated this sweet couple. A few hours into the celebration, Chandler and Lawton pulled out all the Georgia grads and we got a group shot with their UGA flag. (Go Dawgs!)

The bouquet was tossed, the garter was found to the music from Top Gun, and the bride and groom even got up on stage to sing with the band. It was a perfect, joy-filled day and celebration of Lawton and Chandler. I’m so thankful I was able to be a part of their beautiful wedding—Chandler and Lawton, I wish you an amazing marriage filled with joy, laughter and blessings.

Chris and Haley--9 Oaks Farm, Monroe, Georgia

It was a beautiful morning out at 9 Oaks Farm when I arrived to work with Haley and Chris on their wedding day! Haley and her girls were hanging out and dressing in the gorgeous “White House” on the property. She had picked beautiful colors that complemented the surroundings—lush greens, soft blues and greens. Her sweet bridesmaids were wrapped in silky sage green robes trimmed with lace, and Haley was enjoying a mimosa dressed in a white robe.

Her details were just breathtaking—especially her stunning bouquet! White roses and succulents were nestled into the bouquet amid blue accent flowers and surrounded by cascading seeded eucalyptus—definitely one of the most gorgeous bouquets I’ve seen!

After shooting her details, I hung out with Chris and his groomsmen for their portraits on the backside of the property. As we walked down a gravel path, the guys spied a swing. They jokingly suggested we should get some photos of them swinging Chris, and I was down for anything! This group of guys was so much fun to work with and we had a great time hanging out.

Haley’s mother-in-law and mother were so sweet—they both had a few private moments with her to give her gifts. Chris’s mother gave her diamond earrings from Chris, and Haley’s mother gifted her with a beautiful diamond necklace. They were such sweet moments to capture! Following the gifts, the girls shared some laughs in their gorgeous robes outside in the sunlight, and then Haley’s mom helped her into her stunning gown.

Haley had a first look with her dad, after which they shared a good old-fashioned bottle of coke—and before shooting her bridal portraits we found a ladybug on her gown! (Definitely good luck!) The sweet flower girl took her job of helping Haley hold her dress up very seriously, and these gorgeous girls were just so sweet and awesome to work with!

As Haley walked down the aisle, one of my favorite images was the photo I snapped of her smiling at her husband-to-be while her father gazed lovingly at her. It was just such a real, genuine image and I’m pretty sure this will always be one of my favorite ceremony images. The ceremony itself was beautiful and God-centered with an offering for everyone attending the wedding to partake in communion. Chris and Haley officially became Mr. and Mrs. and on the way down the aisle, Chris dipped his gorgeous bride for a kiss! We shot family formals in front of the red bridge, and traipsed down to an open field for bridal party shots. A few minutes into shooting Haley and Chris’s portraits, we got a 15 minute warning so we had to work fast to get everything in for both the photos and the videographer who was there. Haley and Chris were incredibly sweet and it was so evident they were crazy about one another. They both have such calm, sweet personalities and were an absolute joy to work with.

After all the photos were taken, Haley and Chris had a few private moments in the bridal suite to grab a quick bite while her guests finished cocktail hour, and then the bridal party was introduced, the guests ate an amazing dinner, and the couple danced the night away. Ya’ll—one of my favorite parts of the reception was when Chris’s grandmother, who just turned 92, was coaxed out on the dance floor! What an amazing woman! She was grinning the entire time—it was so fun to watch! Their send off, sparklers with a brilliant firework show, was the perfect closing of an amazing day. I am so excited for this sweet couple as they begin their lives together—congratulations Chris and Haley, and may God bless your marriage!

Riley and Hannah--John Oliver Michael House, Statham

When I first met Hannah, we instantly bonded over our shared love of Jane Austen, music, and everything classic! Hannah is a classically trained pianist and her now husband, Riley, proudly serves our country and is currently stationed at Fort Hood.

When I met Hannah for her walk-through at the venue, she expressed to me that she wanted her wedding to reflect more “classic English garden” than “rustic”, and I was pretty excited because that was right up my alley!

I surprised her with a beautiful copy of Sense and Sensibility, one of her favorite Jane Austen novels, after I used it for a few secret detail photos. (Ya’ll—I even brought an English tea cup from home, and a silver English spoon that Hannah didn’t know about…I was excited to get creative…I took the Jane Austen idea and ran with it!) Hannah dressed upstairs in the white farmhouse, and her dress was just classically beautiful—the perfect dress for Hannah.

From the first day I met with Riley and Hannah, Riley answered everything I asked with “yes ma’am”. That hadn’t changed, and he was an absolute gentlemen during his pictures.

After a sweet first look with Riley, we photographed Hannah. After capturing her outdoors in the gorgeous light, we shot a few inside the farmhouse. In the dining room there was a picture of a woman playing the piano…so it was quite fitting that we snapped a photo of Hannah there to reflect her passion.

Hannah’s ceremony was God-centered, classic, and beautiful. She and Riley lit a unity candle, and Hannah’s piano teacher sang a beautiful prayer to bless the couple. After the joyful couple sealed their vows with a kiss, we whisked them off to an adjoining field for some golden hour shots!

Hannah was a trooper walking into the tall grass—and the sun setting across the field reminded me of some of the scenes from Pride and Prejudice…so we had Riley walk across the field to give Hannah a “Mr. Darcy” shot! You know that one ladies….the one where Mr. Darcy (Matthew MacFayden) walks across a misty morning field and professes his love for Elizabeth… “You have bewitched me body and soul..” but I digress.

After their golden hour photos, we headed back for the reception where Hannah and Riley had their first dance, and Hannah and her father surprised everyone with a fast swing dance to Glenn Miller’s In the Mood…which happened to be the exact same song I danced to my father with at our wedding! (I told you Hannah and I connected!!)

All in all, Hannah and Riley’s day was just perfect, and will always be a memorable wedding for me. I had so much fun incorporating things I am passionate about into Hannah’s and Riley’s day. This couple was just so special and sweet…I am beyond thrilled I was able to capture these memories for them. Riley and Hannah—thank you for your service, and may the Lord bless you and keep you all the days of your lives.

When  I  met  Cayla,  we  connected—maybe  it  was  because  she  was  a  teacher  (just  as  I  had  been)  or  because  we  had  similar  paths,  or  because  she  teared  up  when  telling  me  the  story  of  how  she  met  Evan....but  I  just  knew  she  was  a  beautiful  soul  and  I  was  so  excited  to  be  able  to  work  with  her.      

Her  wedding  took  place  at  Wolf  Mountain  Vineyards—a  Vineyard  and  restaurant  nestled  among  the  North  Georgia  Mountains  in  the  historic  town  of  Dahlonega.  When  I  arrived,  I  met  with  her  beautiful  bridesmaids  and  got  to  work  photographing  her  details.    

Cayla  had  chosen  a  stunning  mermaid  style  gown  that  flared  out  into  a  champagne  colored  lace  train...and  was  just  gorgeous!  She  and  her  girls  looked  stunning  in  their  floral  printed  robes,  and  then  later  in  their  rose-gold  gowns.  I  loved  that  Cayla  had  picked  different  styles  for  each  of  her  girls,  but  the  gowns  all  went  together  beautifully.  One  thing  that  stood  out  to  me  about  Cayla  was  that  she  had  taken  the  time  to  write  each  of  her  girls  a  personal  letter—it  again  was  a  testament  to  her  sweet  and  thoughtful  nature.  There  were  lots  of  tears  shed  while  the  girls  read  their  letters...it  was  really  a  touching  moment!  Trish  and  I  met  the  guys  in  the  wine  cellar—and  they  were  only  too  excited  to  take  their  photos  in  the  cool,  temperature-controlled  room.  We  got  some  great  shots  of  them  with  the  wine  barrels  in  the  background,  and  once  we  finished  with  that  we  were  on  a  tight  timeline  the  rest  of  the  day!    

The  ceremony  was  God-centered  and  Cayla’s  walk  down  the  aisle  was  emotional.  She  and  Evan  put  together  a  cross  sculpture  to  display  in  their  home,  and  ya’ll—when  the  officiant  told  Evan  to  kiss  the  bride,  Cayla’s  huge  grin  and  shoulder  shimmy  made  everyone  laugh!  Her  joy  was  just  infectious.    We  hung  out  in  the  Vineyards  for  their  bride/groom  portraits,  and  although  we  didn’t  have  as  much  time  as  usual,  we  dipped  back  outside  after  the  cake  was  cut  to  grab  some  beautiful  images  of  Cayla  and  Evan  with  the  sun  setting  behind  the  rolling  mountains  in  the  distance.    

Cayla  danced  with  her  grandfather  to  Strawberry  Wine,  tossed  the  bouquet  to  her  sweet  aunt,  and  with  a  bubble  send-off  Evan  helped  her  step  into  his  black  truck  and  they  rode  away  to  their  happily  ever  after.    I’m  so  thankful  I  was  able  to  be  a  part  of  their  beautiful  vineyard  wedding—may  God  bless  your  marriage  and  I’m  so  glad  you’ve  found  your  happily  ever  after!    

Kelvin and Terina

When I first met Terina and Kelvin, it was obvious that they were smitten with one another.  They just exuded a sincerity and sweetness that was absolutely charming and infectious. They met through Terina's sister, and got engaged at Sims Lake Park--the place they chose for their engagement session as well as their wedding.  

At their engagement session, it was windy, and when I had trouble folding up my reflector, Kelvin immediately came to my assistance.  He was an absolute gentleman.  He held Terina's hand and helped her down some grassy slopes during the shoot. I just adored them. 

The day of their wedding, rain was in the forecast, and although we escaped the rain for bridal portraits and groom's portraits, we got caught in it before the ceremony and camped out in a wooded curve under some umbrellas taking turns holding my giant reflector over Terina so she would stay dry! Once the rain let up, the ceremony was on, and ya'll--the way Kelvin looked at his bride is the way every bride dreams her groom will react.  After the sweet ceremony, and lots of happy tears, we were getting ready to shoot bride and groom portraits.  I suggested an open field if Terina could get across a stream of water flowing through a ditch--and ya'll--Kelvin scooped up his bride and carried her across that ditch and field to keep her shoes dry!! What a guy...and what a couple. I just can't even express how special they are and how excited I was to be a part of their beautiful day. I have absolutely no doubt they will have a joy-filled marriage...their genuine sweetness and love for one another is inspiring. Congratulations to Terina and Kelvin!
