Andrew and Laura: The Carl House

The first time I spoke with Andrew and Laura on the phone, I think our conversation was over an hour…and most of it wasn’t about photography! I’m not sure I’ve ever met and photographed the wedding of a couple I had SO much in common with….from Jane Austen, to refinishing furniture, to most importantly our faith, these two have grown to be incredibly dear to me in only a short time!

I’ll never forget Laura’s email to me when she first inquired—because in her message she said she loved all things southern, and lace and pearls (like me!) As I got to know them and their story, I learned Andrew proposed on the front porch of Laura’s parents’ home and that was a special place for them. When I arrived at Laura’s home to photograph her bridal details, Laura and her girls were upstairs in Laura’s room getting ready. I shot her beautiful details on her front porch, which included a pair of diamond and pearl earrings that her father gifted her mother on their wedding day, and then we headed over to the Carl House.

The Carl House is a beautiful, southern historic home located in the small town of Auburn, Georgia—and it fit everything Andrew and Laura envisioned for their wedding. Laura was the epitome of a beautiful, southern bride with her full, lace trimmed gown. One of her preschool students, Emma, was her flower girl, and we made sure to get some sweet photos with just the two of them!

Andrew held back tears at their first look, and then we had our first round of portraits with the two of them! Andrew and Laura are SO full of joy when they are together—Laura’s smile just lights up her beautiful face and the way Andrew looks at her is just so sweet—it’s the way every bride dreams her husband will look at her on their wedding day!

Their ceremony took place at Sunset and was God-centered and sweet—they prayed, lit a unity candle to signify their coming together, and sealed their vows with a kiss.

The reception was elegant and Laura’s mother hand-pained the covers of the books that served as the centerpieces of the table (the “titles” were either Andrew and Laura’s name or something significant to them). After a kiss on the balcony where Andrew spun Laura around, they descended the staircase and shared their first dance.

They enjoyed quality time with friends and family, and then the evening closed out with Andrew singing to Laura followed by a sparkler exit.

Andrew and Laura, y’all have quickly become friends and I am SO thankful that God brought you into my life! Y’all are very special to me, and I wish you every blessing as you begin this amazing journey called marriage! Congratulations!
