I met Chrissy through one of my October brides from last year—Kaylin—and I have SO enjoyed getting to know Chrissy, Justin and their sweet families. Chrissy and Justin have a really special story. Chrissy was adopted and brought to her family by a christian missionary named Betty Laudermilk (who was a special guest at their wedding). She met Justin in high school, and they’ve been together ever since.
Chrissy and I were watching the weather closely in the days that were leading up to her wedding, and it wasn’t looking good. 24 hours out, we were looking at 90% chance of thundershowers starting right about when our portraits were scheduled.
When I walked into the bridal suite, I was carrying an armful of clear umbrellas—and Chrissy’s mother, Kathy, immediately said “Audrey, we aren’t going to need those because it is NOT going to rain.” I wasn’t so sure at the time—but y’all—she was right!
Despite a few periods of drizzle, the 90% rain that was forecasted never materialized until well into the reception.
Chrissy and Justin had a beautiful day with their closest family and friends. It was a smaller celebration than they planned due to Covid, but it was still incredibly special. Chrissy and Justin originally did not plan on a first look—but, due to the weather opted for one. To make it even more special, Chrissy’s father walked her to Justin, who was beaming when he saw his beautiful bride.
At their ceremony, they exchanged vows and lit a unity candle to signify their coming together and we photographed their family pictures (including a few special ones with Chrissy and Betty). At the reception, they shared their first dance as husband and wife and enjoyed an intimate dinner with their family and friends. Chrissy’s father gave an emotional welcome speech that included expressing his gratitude for Betty—who placed Chrissy with the Mitchell family and answered their prayers.
It was just starting to drizzle when I pulled Justin and Chrissy out for a night shot. We marveled at the forecast and how the rain never materialized. I think it was a God thing—just like Chrissy was brought to the Mitchells and how Justin and Chrissy found one another. Justin and Chrissy—ya’ll have become friends, and I am so thankful I had the privilege of capturing this special time for you! I wish you every blessing as you begin this amazing journey of marriage!
